Lakeside Lodge - Lodge Course - 19/01/17

Today was another dismal performance. At this rate I may give up. At least it was dry and, with no wind, conditions were favourable. It was even a bit warmer than of late at around 6℃. So what could go wrong? Well quite a lot as it happens.

The 1st was safe if not sparkling and if I had put the first attempt with my 8-iron on the green I could have perhaps got a nett birdie, but I settled for a nett par 7.

The 2nd wasn't quite the fiasco of last Thursday but it was close. My tee shot was short and to the left. I then managed to hit a tree square on with my second, the ball rebounding to a position about 20 yards back from where the drive landed. I put the next one in the ditch and lost my ball. A penalty drop and a decent 8-iron put me just off the green, a 7-iron chip and one putt totalling 7 - a blob.

My tee shot on the 3rd went right into the trees. The ball had settled against a tree trunk and was completely unplayable. A penalty drop was followed by an 8-iron that fell short. A 7-iron chip and two putts for 6 gave me another blob.

My second shot on the 4th ended up on the right hand bank from where I played a safety shot with my 8-iron back to the centre of the fairway. My hybrid shot was then thick and left me well short of the green. An 8-iron got me on, but was far too long. Three putts then sealed my fate with an 8 and another blob.

I found the right hand bunker again on the 5th. I picked the ball out with my gap wedge but it was short of the green. A 7-iron was too long and I again three-putted, this time for 6 and another blob. You will note that things weren't going too well.

It didn't improve on the 6th. I was in the left hand bunker for 3, which wasn't that bad. Unfortunately it took me two to get out, and I then underplayed my gap wedge needing another 7-iron chip to get on. Two putts and I ended up with 9 on what is a very straightforward par 4. And another blob.

The 7th was marginally better but I was in the right hand bunker after my third shot. I took a 9-iron out but didn't reach the green, and I then failed to reach it again with my next 9-iron shot. I chipped on with the 7-iron and single putted for 7, a nett bogey.

The long 8th (440 yard par 4) was probably my best hole. After three hybrids and an 8-iron I was on the green for 4. Two putts for a nett par 6.

At this point I was considering my golfing future! A decent tee shot on the 9th was followed by a poor shot that skewed left. The next was better and the fourth shot was a cracker at 148 yards putting me left of the green for 4. I then completely messed up my 8-iron chip that went no more than a few feet. The next was better and left me with a single putt for a nett bogey 8.

Today didn't feel as bad as last Thursday but in fact over the first 7 holes I totalled 49, so it was actually worse (I walked in after 7 holes last week). I'm seriously thinking of taking a break from the game as my present performance is so dire as to make the whole thing far from enjoyable. No scorecard today and no photos as there was literally nothing worth recording.
